HBO announced a pilot episode for one of five potential prequels or spinoffs of Game of Thrones series, which returns next year for an eighth and final season. The proposed prequels series is set in the world of Westeros but takes place thousands of years before the events of Thrones. The new series "chronicles the world’s descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’s history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend … it's not the story we think we know." HBO says.
Given the massive history of the world, there’s a lot of potential for where the new prequel series project could go — and it could unravel the truth behind the myths of the events of the Thrones. HBO's the “Only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know,”
There is a long way to go yet: Game of Thrones’ final season doesn’t arrive until 2019 and there’s no guarantee that the prequel pilot will lead to new series of GOT, and at the very least, viewers will not on’t see it for at least a year until after Game of Thrones goes off the air.
